Given present day (2007) events it was ironic that in 2003, the Historic Naval Ship's Association awarded the Russel Booth Award to Harry and Shirley Jaeger of the then Tamaroa Maritime Foundation for their outstanding devotion to the cause of restoring the Tamaroa.
Compounding the irony, making the presentation, was U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral Sally Brice O'Hara. The presentation was made in a conference room at Coast Guard Headquarters in Portsmouth, Virginia, and again ironically enough, the Tamaroa's battle ribbons on display in the background. Harry Jaeger then presented Admiral Bryce with a framed photograph of the Tamaroa on patrol near an iceberg.
A former Navy Master Chief who spent his career aboard ATF's, Harry Jaeger was the Operations Director of the Tamaroa Maritime Foundation. Given his background, it is not surprising that he was the prime architect of the 2007 rebranding of the Foundation to become Navy and Zuni centric.
